Product video production: ad spots, spec ads and 3D product films

UpToVision (UP2VISION), a studio in Weiden, Germany, offers product video production for companies – for online shops, websites, social media and paid ads. Concept, visuals, editing and motion graphics come from one team, and on request as a 3D product film with no photo studio involved.

Product video, ad, brand film, spec ad, UGC – what is what?

These terms get mixed up a lot. This is how we draw the lines.

TermWhat it isWhere it fits
Product videoshows a product, its details and its benefitshop, product page, ads
Ad spotshort spot with a clear message and call to actionads on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube
Brand filmshows the company, its attitude and its people – not one productwebsite, recruiting, trade fairs
Spec ada commercial made without a brand's commission, often in the style of big campaignsportfolio, pitching ideas, testing a style
UGC video“user-generated content”: looks like a real customer filmed it on a phoneads that should not look like ads

What we do – and what we do not

Our strength is product films built from 3D, motion graphics and editing. A product can float through space, break apart into its components or stand in a setting that exists nowhere else.

Real UGC lives from real people talking, and that cannot be faked convincingly. If you have recordings of customers or staff, we turn them into a clean clip – what happens in that process is described under short-form video editing.

Three routes to a product video

  • From existing material

Photos, clips and product shots you already have become a video through editing and motion graphics.

  • 3D product film

The product is rebuilt as a 3D model, so camera, light and background are completely free. Ideal when the product is not finished yet. The same model can later be rotatable on a 3D website.

  • With digitally created scenes

Settings and scenes that are hard to shoot are created digitally. We check lettering, logo and product details especially carefully.

Checklist: what a good product video needs

  • A problem up front

Show first what the product is for – not the packaging.

  • The product in use

Hands, movement, real use. That makes the benefit tangible.

  • One main benefit

One strong reason beats ten features in fast-forward.

  • Captions

Most feeds play on mute. Without text the message is lost.

  • Format per channel

Vertical for Reels and ads, horizontal for website and YouTube.

  • A clear ending

What should the viewer do? Buy, enquire, visit – say it at the end.

05

Where product videos pay off most

On a product page they answer questions before anyone has to call. In ads they stop the thumb. In a showroom they run on a screen next to the real thing.

One product video can be cut into several short clips for ongoing social media content. And a video on a page that loads slowly wastes its effect – which is why it helps when the website comes from the same studio.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a photo studio for a product video?

Not necessarily. For a 3D product film the product is rebuilt on the computer, and light and background are created digitally. Clips with real people, on the other hand, need real footage.

Can you show a product that has not been manufactured yet?

Yes, with 3D. CAD data, drawings or photos of a prototype become a model that can be filmed like a finished product. That lets you start advertising before launch.

What works better in ads: a polished product video or UGC?

It depends on product and audience. UGC feels personal and genuine, a polished video shows quality and detail. The safest approach is to test both versions against each other in your ads.

How long should a product video be?

As short as possible, as long as necessary. For social media and ads the message has to land in the first seconds. On a product page a video may explain more, because the visitor is already interested.
