3D website design: camera flights, WebGL and configurators in the browser
UpToVision (UP2VISION), a studio in Weiden, Germany, offers 3D website design for companies: sites where a camera flight plays as you scroll, products can be rotated in the browser or a configurator shows variants live. Concept, 3D models, camera flights and the build come from one team – fast, and usable on a phone.

Why 3D on a website at all
A good 3D site is not a gimmick bolted onto a normal page. It replaces the moment where a photo stops being enough: a building that does not exist yet, a product with an interesting inside, a kitchen in ten finishes.
The best-known form is the scroll-driven camera flight. The visitor controls the movement with the scroll wheel or a thumb, and because they set it in motion themselves, it sticks. 3D sites are one of several services from our studio, alongside classic website design.

What a 3D website can be
Scroll animation with camera flight
A custom-rendered camera flight moves forward and back in time with your scrolling. Text, key figures and labels sit on top.
Real-time 3D in the browser
The model is calculated in the browser. Visitors can rotate it, zoom in and look at it from every side.
3D configurator
Switch colors, materials or equipment live – for kitchens, vehicles or prefab houses, for example.
3D product presentation
Show a product the way no photo can: opened up, exploded into its parts, in cross-section.
Architectural visualization
Show buildings before they are built – useful for developers, real estate agents and construction firms.

Rendered camera flight or real-time 3D?
Both have their strengths, and we often combine them: a camera flight as the opener, an interactive model further down.
| Rendered camera flight (video) | Real-time 3D in the browser | |
|---|---|---|
| Image quality | cinematic, light and shadow like a finished rendering | depends on the device, very good on current computers and phones |
| Interaction | scrolling controls time | rotate, zoom, switch variants |
| Load on phones | easy to plan, since it is a video file | uses the graphics chip, needs a lean mobile version |
| Good for | brand impact, campaigns, new-build projects | configurators, products, technical detail |

Load time, mobile and accessibility
3D must never come at the expense of the basics. These rules apply to every 3D site we build.
Content first, 3D second
Text and the first image appear immediately. 3D elements load afterwards, so nobody stares at an empty screen.
A separate mobile version
Resolution, file sizes and effects are adjusted for small screens so nothing stutters.
Reduced motion
If someone has set “reduce motion” on their device, they get a calm version without camera flights or fast animation.
Text stays text
Headings and content are real HTML text, so Google, AI search and screen readers can read everything. How that helps visibility is explained under SEO and GEO.

When 3D is not worth it
If your customers mainly look for a phone number or opening hours, 3D adds little. A delivery service or an emergency plumber is better served by a fast, classic business website.
3D also needs something worth showing: a product, a building, a space. If your main goal is social media rather than your website, the same 3D model can be turned into a 3D product film instead. Whether the effort pays off for your project is something we discuss honestly in the intro call.

Frequently asked questions
Will 3D make my website slow?
Not if it is built properly. The content loads first and the 3D elements follow. File sizes and effects are planned so the page stays usable on a mobile connection.
Does a 3D website work on phones?
Yes. Small screens get their own lighter version with adjusted resolution. We test every site on phone, tablet and desktop before it goes live.
Do I need a finished 3D model?
No. We build the model ourselves from plans, photos or sketches. If you have CAD data, for example from an architect or manufacturer, that speeds things up.
Can Google read a 3D website?
Not the 3D part itself, but the content around it, yes. That is why every important statement is on the page as real text. The 3D creates the impression, the text does the ranking.
